ARROWHEAD LAND COMPANY NEWSLETTER

Hello, if you're reading this for the first time, welcome to Tellico Plains and Tennessee. We've been "busy as bees" getting cabins ready at Caney Creek Village, They are ready for rental now, look at the site at http://www.caneycreekvillage.com.

Myles Witt:

"I have sad news about Myles, my husband, business partner, and co-owner of Arrowhead Land Company and Caney Creek Village. Many of you may have met him over the years, since he was very active in the local real estate field and in our lodging business. He owned and operated Arrowhead River Lodge until 2000, when our office on highway 165 was sold, along with the cabins on the river. New cabins were constructed on Cane Creek on highway 360, Ballplay Road in 2001, and we opened in May of that year. We named them Caney Creek Village.

He was sick for many years, suffering from many ailments, but continued struggling to stay alive and active in the businesses. He passed away unexpectedly November 23, 2009 at home, just three days before our 52nd wedding anniversary.  He was buried in his home church cemetery at Eppersen Presbyterian Church on November 25, with a military funeral. He was 76 at the time of his death, and in keeping with his life, at sundown, taps was played in the distance as we honored his life there in the mountain cemetery for which his grandfather W. R. Witt had donated the land.

He touched many people with his life and stories of his native Coker Creek mountains, and he will not ever be forgotten by me and many other people. Memories of his joking ways and his love of life and people will remain with me for the rest of my life. There is an online legacy book if you'd like to view it or sign it. Thanks to all of you for your kind comments about him."

It's been while since I've written our what is supposed to be quarterly newsletter. Last September my mother, whom many of you have met, passed away and got a new address in heaven. She lived a long and fulfilled life, first taking care of my dad who passed away in 1993, and then pursuing her interests in art in the last few years of her life. She was able to enjoy painting with oils until two weeks before she left us. She also went fishing at the little fishing pond here at the village, complained that she didn't catch anything, but the grandson Dondi who took her, did catch something. I went into the local hospital cafeteria about 2 weeks ago, and was privileged to see a copy of a drawing she had done in pen and ink of what we all believe Jesus looked like. It was posted on the wall, apparently from when she had been there two years ago as a patient in the rehab. It was a reminder that she hasn't really left us, because memories of her and what she did will remain with us for our lifetimes. Some of you had even bought her paintings, a fact of which she bragged in her last few weeks. She had a great time in life, loved to travel, and with God's help, we kept her travelling until one month before she left.

Most of you remember Myles, the central attraction of Arrowhead Land Company, and I say, attraction because that's what he was. He was able to woo and win customers for real estate until six years ago when he suffered a serious stroke, the third one. He had been actively involved in selling Tennessee to our customers since 1968, when he began as an owner of property, then got his l license in 1976. He's enjoyed being at Caney Creek Village for the past several years, had recovered sufficiently to talk to some of the customers when they come in about his beloved Coker Creek, and the Cherohala Skyway. He knew the history of the area, and was like a walking history book, he loved going to Kings Mountain in SC where some of his family served as volunteers in the Revolutionary War.
He was 76 in July, We were married nearly 52 years, we think, not bad, since no one in 1957 in our families expected our marriage to make it.

We have a new great granddaughter, born after Mom passed away, named after her, Gracy Abilene Ray, daughter of Shannon, Julie's child. Another great grandchild is on the way, this time it's Jessie (also Julie's daughter) and Blaine Arwood, who were married in May a year ago. Jessie is very miserably pregnant right now, expecting in August or September.

We also have a new great grandson, Kenny and Syble's daughter Christa married about 4 weeks ago, his name is David Tahere, they are moving to Pennsylvania, she has already gotten a position in a real estate office. I've kidded her and told her she'd be a singing agent, since her major is music. We're going to miss seeing them around.

Our other son David has started a business of his own, Arrowhead Services, told his dad that he was carrying the name of Arrowhead on. He specializes in lawn service, has a bobcat, and full service lawn care. He has six grandchildren now.

The cabins continue to keep us busy, have placed some concrete statues which will be new to you. We have a pink pig that the children like to ride, a new deer who has all her horns (our old one has been rode to death, lacks one horn), and at the entrance, we have a beautiful angel statue. We don't worship angels, but we believe that angels of the Lord protect us at all times, and have seen evidence of that here at Caney Creek Village.

We've also added some rough campsites, basically is only a gravel drive in 5 new places with picnic tables, still have to use the barn bathroom. We've also planted more shade trees for you to enjoy. Eventually we hope to have the campsites improved to full hookup, but we're not really a campground. You can enjoy the creek rippling by anytime you want to walk down to the creek. We're still having to look at bamboo growing next to our fence, it's environmentally protected, so we don't bother it, keeps the creek shaded.

We've also been visited next door by a big brown bear, I haven't seen him, don't want to, but the neighbors have. We have a large church group here during the week he was seen, but we decided he was not their denomination - he didn't join them. To the Baptist group from South Georgia who visited with us then, thank you so much for your business and hope you'll return soon.

Our favorite mascot, Tori, our neighbors' beautiful blue eyed Alaskan Huskey, (so many of you have enjoyed her company here at the cabins) has moved across the road to stay with Alex Martin, who is taking care of her now. We miss her, but know she is getting good care there, when we are unable to take care of her while we have illness.

The neighbors had a horse sale last night, held every 2nd and 4th Thursday, I enjoyed listening to the auctioneer spiel out his fast numbers, there was a good turnout.

We hope to see you soon, and God bless all of you.
