Things to see and do in the Tellico Plains area

Bald River Falls - beautiful waterfalls with 100+ feet drop, 10 miles east of town on USFS. #210, which connects to Cherohala Skyway (State #165) about 3 miles east of Tellico Plains.

Tellico River - wild white water stream traveling from 17 miles east of Tellico Plains at the N.C./Tenn. state lines, can be seen by traveling 165 and 210.

Pheasant Fields Rearing Station - fish hatchery operated by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources agency. Open until sunset every day. See the trout being raised to stock nearby white water rivers, including Tellico River. 17 miles east of Tellico Plains on State #210.

Cherokee National Forest - USFS National forest surrounding Coker Creek, Rafter, and Tellico Plains. Enjoy thousands of acres of wildlife and trees.

Cherohala Skyway - scenic byway connecting Cherokee National Forest and Nantahala Forest, as well as Tellico Plains and Robbinsville. See scenic views of Tennessee and North Carolina from over 5000' elevation. No service stations, no restaurants, no people for over 50 miles! Opened October, 1996.

Scenic Rivers - in addition to Tellico River, there are six other rivers in the area, Bald River, North River, Hiwassee River, Conasauga River, Little Tennessee River and the Tennessee River, which are all within 45 minutes of Tellico Plains.

Tellico Lake - TVA lake with backwaters near Tellico Plains. This huge lake is primarily fed by the waters of the Tellico and Little Tennessee rivers.

Fort Loudoun State Historical Park - a historically accurate reconstruction of a 18th century British fort and settlement located on the banks of Tellico Lake.

Lost Sea - hailed as the "world's largest underground lake." Located just 17 miles north of Tellico Plains on State #68.

Coker Creek Falls - beautiful cascading falls located at the Monroe County and Polk county border. One of many falls in the area, including Baby Falls, Conasauga Falls, Ballplay Falls, Towee Falls, Yellow Creek Falls, Bullet Creek Falls and Falls Branch Falls.

Jeffrey's Hell - wild mountainous area, densely overgrown with laurel, where legend has it that Mr. Jeffrey went into one day looking for his dog, and never came out.

Coker Creek - scenic mountain valley located just south of Tellico Plains, where gold was discovered before the California gold-rush. Coker Creek is the home of the annual "Autumn Gold Festival" held every second full weekend in October.

Starr Mountain - historical mountain west of Tellico Plains, where the rich used to seek lodging, while enjoying the spectacular views, at the now destroyed White Cliffs Hotel. Although only the foundation stones of the hotel remain, the commanding views from the mountain top are still the same.
